Hey guys, I'm looking at doing a little upholstery to the interior of my VH...The car's black on the outside and has unfortunately kept the green half SL, half SL/E interior! I would pay for a custom job but being pov and all, have decided to take a trip down to spotlight and purchase some black suede and felt sheets. I've heard there are paints available that i can use on upholstery and seats etc, but i'm a little unsure...I want absolutely everything to be black, as in the dash, door skins, and the roof lining. I understand the roof lining would be a bitch to re-upholster so I'm just considering using this paint that i've heard so much about, but could really use some advice...

What d'you think guys?

I got my new black carpet for $120 off of ebay. I rekon it's a tru-fit one, can't remember, but yeah they sell them on ebay.

Could just use black seat covers over ur seats. I've never tried painting the material...but apparently it does work. Vinyl spray does a good job on the dashboard. Alot better overall if ya pull it out tho to paint it up. Roof lining costs about $150 I think for a new one (ebay again)...only downside is the front and back windows gotta be removed to fit it. Or yeah just more vinyl spray. Ya can also use the vinyl spray for most other interior bits as well like kick panels, pinch weld etc etc.

Just remember if ya paint sumfin it can always rub/scratch off. I've got a black carpet and have painted the dash up black. The door skins look tacky when they're black so have got grey ones.....but yeah I rekon overall it looks crap and I can't find a nice colour combo to go with the black so I'm gonna change all mine over to the original green, will look alot nicer I rekon. Just gonna keep the black carpet, and also gonna use black carpet in the back on the floor of the wagz.

Here's how my interiour is at the moment. The lower section of the dashboard is painted dark blue/grey....just tryin to get sumfin to look half decent but yeah still can't do anything with the door skins coz painting them will just turn out crap (as it WILL rub off).

Here's the original interior that my wagz come with when I got it. Should of kept it but threw it all out. Luckilly I got another VK here that we're stripping that also has a green interiour.

Cheers mate Smile

Looks like I'll have to go with the vinyl paint for the time being...As I'm basically stuck with a $50 budget! Do you know where i could buy myself a new set of front door skins like yours? My VH was an SL/E, however the front door skins that were placed back in the car (the originals were stuffed) were from an SL, and they look absolutely terrible, the carpet on the lower edge of them may as well be a bloody shag rug! I'll put up some pics once I've finished with the dash and center console and see how it goes...I'm thinking of attempting to upholster..or tightly wrap the suede and felt that i bought...around some of the surfaces and see how it looks!

Wish me luck...I really hope this doesn't turn my interior to shit...Haha

I got my door skins out of a VL. I think I paid $100. That was for the whole dash as well as I was gonna put a VL dash in it, also I got all the slide lock mechanism and changed all mine to slide locks. Check out u-pull-it, they might have sumfin with a grey interior in it. They're alot more common in VL's I think.

There use to be a guy on here (his username was Stinky if I remember correctly) that done upholstery. I think he was doing a course on it at TAFE and offered to re-do peoples door skins pretty cheap. Not sure if he's still around or even still doing upholstery....maybe someone else on here might know him and can hook ya up?

That could be rather helpful! Cause these front door skins are absolutely f**ked Sad Might take a trip up to U-Pull it and see what I can find this weekend...Providing the weather doesn't turn the joint into a desert. If anyone here knows anything about upholstery and can help me out, that would be beneficial!

Mine were pretty stuffed too, i used the old ones as a template and made new ones out of mdf. The velour type material cost me $30 for two doors (proper thick material, not spotlight stuff which failed miserably when I had the first try) and the whole exercise was really easy in the end.

Please Shocked I guess i'm a SL/E fanatic, sure change the exterior with a great paint job, but replace the interior with how the general intended it to be Cool

A genuine SL/E will be worth $ in years to come, so keep it as original as possible!

I know of a full velour interior in two tone blue, you would be aware that the colors available are limited Wink and you can no longer purchase the original velour material.

So my advise (for what its worth) get yourself down to u-pull-it (show your club membership card = free entry) and browse for some velour SL/E interior or check e vil bay, many have been on there recently What a Face

Steve

*FOOT NOTE* Plastic trim dye/paint looks boganish IMO (not that there is anything wrong with that Wink )

I guess not everyone wants to keep their car stocko. Urs isn't all original is it? Isn't the only thing original in urs the interior? Motor, trans and diff are from different models, locks welded up, aerial hole welded. Not saying it's a bad thing as it's a beast...just sounds a bit hypocritical when u say ur an SLE fanatic. I thought an "SLE fanatic" would of kept everything original.

Danny the topic is in a "Tech Help" section of a Commodore club forum Wink

No where above did I mention my Commodore or yours, the young fella obviously posted in here for advice (which I offered as did you)

Google the word "fanatic" you don't have to own something to be a fanatic, I also am fanatical about V8 racing and drag racing without owning a racing car or team. There are many versions of the SL/E I have laid eyes on (not all of them stock) that are tastefully done and when its time to sell them the ID tags identify it as an SL/E.

Not everyone like's some people's attempt at technical modifications to there Commodore's ! But remaining silent and neutral in Commodore Tech advise sections about other people's Commodores is a great piece of advice, bang on all you like in my "Ride Pride" section of this Commodore forum.

Hypocritical NUP Cool

Haha cheers guys!

The interior is made up of bits and pieces from older models as all the original parts were discarded long ago...And everything in there at the moment is stuffed so i'm just looking for a quick fix to make it look somewhat cool for the time being...I would go for the original look, but it's just not my style Smile Would be great to find some original parts but I also don't have the money to go all out on modifications unfortunately Sad I'm sure you fellas will be able to see for yourselves sometime soon!
