| Why not use a block and tackle or engine crane to drop the motor in. Would be easier anyways I rekon. | |

| Don't stress mate, as long as it's a half decent structure it should be ok, if ur worried get some long lengths of wood to brace under it each side of the car (put them on the ground and jam them under the beam going across supporting the block and tackle). Our main shed is old and make mostly of round tubing and wood beams, the aframes are even round tubing, and my oldest brother never lifted a motor out coz he thought it would fall down. Me and Brad got into cars and decided to try it oneday when we needed to take the motor out of my old red VH...got as close to the edge as possible where it was braced and didn't have any drama's. Now we lift v8's with transmissions out using the middle of the shed and it doesn't seem like it's gonna fall down anytime soon.....altho if ya go out onto the road ya can see our shed has drooped in the middle haha. The other week when we had to get the VQ in the shed, we pushed it in using the GQ, then decided to put the block and tackle on the shed wall down bottom on an upright. Put a strap on the front of the VQ, through the block and tackle and back onto the shed wall next to the Stato....started pulling it in but after a few minutes heard something fall off the wall where the strap was joined up, and noticed it wasn't only pulling the Stato in, but also the shed wall haha. Let the tension off of it and the wall mostly went back to normal, only got a small bend in it now. | |

| lol you obviously were'nt around when i was doing the project VKB about 3 years ago where the goal was making a vb out of a vk shell with a 3.8ltr v6 engine out of a vn i only really got up to the stage where i am now with the V8 project hope to go all the way this time but without the vb look and obviously without the v6 this time lol
This project is much simpler as im keeping the vh look and using a V8 hopefully ill be able to put a injection setup on it a little further up the track i just want to get this thing together and get rid of all remaining parts then start working on the vehicle once i get yard space back and some spending cash from parts that im going to get rid of including that complete vk which ill probably let go for $1000 once i finish that off |

| Got the blue motor out now and gearbox I found out that it is actually a 5 speed borg warner box does anyone know how many vh commodores were bought out with these? also how hard would it be to adapt this box to the v8 as you all probably know the V8 was auto so there will have to be some modifications |

| The 5 speeds weren't very rare behind the 173's and 202's. No point in putting it behind a V8 coz even behind the 202's everyone seems to have problems with them as they are a weak gearbox. I gave mine a flogging and it never missed a beat, but pretty much anyone that's had one doesn't have anything good to say about them (except me coz mine seemed ok lol). As no one would bother putting one behiund a V8 there won't be any conversion parts to do it so you'd have to somehow do it urself (custom bellhousing and input shaft to start with). Would be cheaper doing a celica, supra or t5 5spd conversion I'd say. | |

| I was told the supra/celicaboxes were crap i think ill stick to the auto and just build that up and sell the complete gearbox conversion setup out of the gold vh i dont want to thrash the box i was thinking more along the lines of economy as this car will just be a cruiser |

I think the weaker ones had the alloy case, but the steel case ones are the box to get. I wouldn't even compare those boxes to the M76 5spd tho. If u don't end up using ur V8 auto and wanna sell it, let me know. | |
