| Subject: Alternate method to modifying V8 exhaust system - Grandpa style Fri 22 Oct 2010, 7:59 am | |
| Last Sunday, last thing to do before the day end was to back the wagon up some ramps to check out a slight diff oil leak. Place car in reverse and feel this resistance to backing up the ramps. Strange I thought, all that V8 torque, professional driver/owner at the wheel, hand brake off but doesn't really wanna go up the ramp, then thwack one ramp goes sliding. STOP, WTF ??? go forward , get out of car and walk around the back and realises what happened. The exhaust tip caught on the top of the ramp stop and it didn't want to budge so it sought of re-aligned the exhaust system by around 1/2" sideways at all of the rubber mount points under the car as well as shortening the length of the system by 1/2" as well. Oh yeh and at the same time it pulled down the tip and broke the welds to where it was attached. Not a happy chappy !!!!!. Anyway took it to a local exhaust mob and after some oxy'ing and gentle pushing and pulling for an hour got it virtually back to the way it was . Oh yes the tip fell of yesterday so it gave me a chance to ............ polish it !!!! See ya around. | |

| I done the same thing in me Triton, altho I was tryin to get up a steep incline. Gave the old diesel some herbs but was heaps muddy and just wouldn't get to the top, back down and tried again. After a few attempts I gave up. As I took off the exhaust was quiet and the turbo sounded weird somehow....and as I'd recently blew off the pressure release valve on the intake and plugged it up I thought I better check things out. And yeah turns out the whole tailpipe had got caught and bent around on itself. Done a bloody good job. Just bent it back and all was good. Still sumfin sounded weird tho, couldn't work it out so babied it home (which was hard coz we were in the middle of the hills so had a few climbs to do), and when we got home just cut the rear half of the exhaust off, who needs a tailpipe anyways lol. Atleast without it there it isn't gonna get caught again | |
