P plate exemption

Hey all

I was wondering if anyone Knows where i can find out bout P plate licence exemption for driving a V8 one tonner . as my work Ute is a 308 one Tonner which is registered in the step dads name (the boss). or would i be able to get a exemption if the Ute is registered in my name but used as a work car .

Much help would be appreciated

Rego dept should be able to help out.

High-powered vehicle restrictions do not apply:

*

when you turn 25 years of age.
*

if you had your P1 or P2 licence before 4 September 2010.

You can only drive it if it was registered in your name prior to 4 Sep '10. So no point changing rego to your name.

These exemptions include circumstances when a high-powered vehicle is required for employment, or was owned before September 4, or if the only vehicle available to the driver was high-powered, for example, a one-car family.

If you need to drive it for work purposes then you may be able to get an exemption if you HAVE to drive it. Apply to the 'Registrar of Motor Vehicles' but it has to be in writing and then it'll be assessed as an individual case.

I drive a V8 VL Calais myself, and my exception is having my license well before September 4th, 2010...Hence why escaped the cops without engaging in a chase when I got pulled over today Razz

It's always best to just give your local police station a ring as I did, just to hear it from the horse's mouth Smile

Gave me that extra security knowing i'm not in the wrong unintentionally...
