H.I.D conversion

hey guys an gal, was thinking today at work today about H.I.D conversions and how hard it would be to convert my vn and vb headlights to H.I.D. i know there are cheap kits on ebay but the word quality keeps coming to mind.

on with the questions

1. so any done this or looked into doing this?

2. rough costage

I bought a $50-$60 kit off ebay and chucked it in my Triton's headlights. It's a hi/low kit. It's not to bad but think I like the halogens better overall. The HID's light up white stuff alot more like road signs and lines on the road, but seem to lack a bit when lighting everything else up. That was only a 35w kit tho.

Ive put a HID kit on my vp calais, works really well. I got an Ebay kit too, but do your research on them, some are better than others.

No need for high beams anymore, low beam is very sufficient.

Just make sure they're hi/lo and suited to H4 globes. Had people behind me with H.I.D. headlights and the glare is very f#@king annoying if the aim height is not adjusted properly.

Colour of the lights may also be a consideration. eg. 3000K/6000K there's about 7 different colours from deep blue to yellow.

Cost from $50 through to $300+


Another thing I found is the European cars MUST have headlight washers fitted if the lights have a higher ouput than standard(?) globes due to excessive glare caused by dirty headlights. Could be an ADR thing here too?


Ring your insurance company first as alot will not allow retro fitment to cars without H.I.D. lights from factory.

Adelaide cops are cracking down on them too...

its just a thought at the moment, thanks for the the info. as for the cops/ insurence copanys theyll get me for a lot of other things b4 the lights lol
