car runs a bit hot

I have a vs v8 statesman and i have a bit of an over heating issue. the car runs hot with the air-con on. i have put in a new water pump, thermostat, radiator, flushed he entire cooling system out.
any ideas as to why this is, would be great.

Have you checked that your thermo fans are kicking in? Most likely cause of your problem if its only when running air con.

what model stato is it....if it's a GEN III you could try removing the big arse turtle shell cover and go for the twin cover setup instead...have heard nothing but good things about them cooling ya car down...
also is it only "running hot" on the gauge or can you hear it bubbling ?...could even be something as simple as a dicky temp sender unit.....Andy

its a vs 5lt. thermo fans are fine.

yeah the thermos may be fine, but is it only running hot viz the temp gauge or is it physically hot, eg bubbling over.......could be the temp sender switch is stuffed, which screws into the block and send the temp to your gauge.....a simple $8.00 fix if it is.

Check the Engine Fan relay, mine in the VP was playing up and was overheating the engine when the AC was on. All good now.

If a GenIII sits at 1/3 on the guage and and the fans fire up, is that normal Andy?

depends on if you are stationary or not...havent really taken lot of notice when mine cut in, but temp gauge sits just below the 1/2 mark most of the time..ash cheers buddy Andy

perfectly normal, its all controlled by the PCM

thanks for clarifying that tom, wasnt 100% sure if it was controlled by the pcm as I am still learning about these GEN III's myself !!!!

Why would any standard or slightly modified car need to take engine covers off? this seems like a backyard way of doing things, if a car is overheating there is a issue with the cooling system of tuning, not engine covers!

yes taking the covers off will let the intake manifold run a little cooler but this would only be needed if you chasing every last bit of hp.

Yeah, I don't think I'll bother removing the lid, seeing as 1/3 on on guage isn't an issue. May jst do it temporarily just see if there's a change...

realise that, I only removed the turtle shell cover to replace them with LS1 fibreglass covers.....I dont understand the removing them altogether myself....they also stop dirt and crap from accumulating on the top....

They're only about $150, aren't they? I wouldn't be doing for any horsepower gain, just wondered if 1/3 was the norm...

Taking the engine cover off will only help inlet manifold air temps and only slightly, not coolant temps.. My engine temps never budge from 1/3 whether its 5deg or 45deg with a cammed motor.
