VN 5.0L Cam suggestions???

hey guys and girls..

I currently have a VN Executive with a worked 5.0L. (286 crane cam, shaved heads, bigger injectors the whole works except still got factory manifold.) also she is 5-speed manual.

im wanting to go a bigger cam, for a show weekend car. something with more lump... what are some bigger cams to look at? and will i need to change lifts, injectors etc????

bigger cam needs more compression, that will require pistons to be changed and to make it work you will need a different manifold and ported heads and so on!

when you say its got the works, you really need to give more info.

Yeah I wouldn't go any bigger then a 286 unless u bump the compression up. Even just shaving the heads prolly wouldn't provide enuf compression to even use the 286 to its full potential.

yes she has shaved heads, different pistons cant remember the type off the top of my head but they are upgrade only standard parts are the block and manifold all internals have been modified/changed to suit 286 cam. a

It would be nice to know what compression ratio it has, the 286 is a very good cam for a street engine, the next step in cams would be a solid cam and that would need new lifters and manifold, also the heads and manifold need attention.

Its all about how much you are willing to spend and if you want to do it right.

solid cams rev high and need some good rods and main caps need attention four bolt mains.

I'd suggest you not worry bout your cam but change the manifold to a duel plane under bonnet style.

this is the cheapest way to get power and it will look better and sound good also.
